Mobile & Wireless Roundup No. 148
By Zahid Ghadialy

Welcome to the 148th edition of this newsletter. Generative AI is improving at an astonishing pace. I keep coming across incredible videos created using different tools. Many parody videos featuring world leaders look so realistic that it is hard to believe they are not genuine.
The potential impact of this technology is huge. Industries that rely on large teams to produce videos for entertainment or advertising could see major disruption once the technology reaches a certain level of maturity. Recently, an older Indian film was re-released with an AI-generated alternative ending. The actors criticised the change, but the rights holder wanted to create a happier conclusion than the original. Seeing this made me wonder if one day someone will remake the final season of Game of Thrones to give it a better ending 🤷♂️.
There is also a positive side. Creative individuals with great ideas but limited resources will be able to share their stories with the world more easily. In some cases, they could even surpass established creators in popularity. Fake images and videos are already common, but most can still be spotted due to their flaws. Once the technology is mature, it may become impossible to separate fact from fiction.
I once mentioned how I grew up believing that by the early 2000s we would have flying cars powered by water, yet in 2025 we still do not. It may be that our concerns about AI are premature and that widespread use will take longer than expected. Premium versions might become available to those willing to pay, while the mass market waits.
For those of you who don’t know me, I am a technologist with over 25 years’ experience in mobile wireless technology, currently working as an independent advisor, analyst, consultant and a trainer.
